Featured Project: Goodwill Easter Seals

Goodwill Easter Seals

Goodwill Easter Seals Miami Valley will be moving the current Kuntz Road headquarters to their new facility currently under construction south of downtown Dayton on Main Street.

This project was awarded to Ferguson Construction who contracted with Garber Electrical Contractors to perform the electrical wiring and system installation. Garber Connect will be installing the fire alarm, mass notification system, and data cabling throughout the building.

The groundbreaking ceremony was on August 27, 2013. Under the direction of project managers Ryan Gotthardt and Justin Flory and job foremen Greg Miller and Bill Bowermaster, the crew began work March 2014 with over 13,000 estimated man hours to complete the project. Upon completion this will be a three story, 18 million dollar facility and will bring more than 50 new jobs to the area.

What is Mass Notification?

MNS (also known as Emergency Communication System) was developed by the military nearly 15 years ago to protect their personnel and properties. Mass Notification Systems protect life by indicating the existence of an emergency situation and communicating information necessary to facilitate an appropriate response. All staff and guests will be alerted of any impending danger and how to respond by prerecorded messages and visual alerts on strategically located devices throughout your facility or campus.

MNS is designed to protect from events such as:

  • Security issues (secure perimeter breach, active shooter)
  • Public disturbance (demonstrations, riot)
  • Health or environmental hazards (toxic chemical release)
  • Weather events (tornado, flood, etc.)
  • Terrorism threats

Many different facilities utilize Mass Notification Systems; including K-12 schools, high-rise buildings, mass transit hubs and even public gathering places such as theatres, restaurants and places of worship. The combination of MNS and Fire Alarm Systems is a current trend we expect to continue growing as the technology becomes more common.
